The boat gods once again shined sun upon our most recent event. This time it was off to Huntsville to tour the 3 lakes all linked together by a natural river and a man-made canal.

We launched our fleet in Avery beach Park. This park is just on the edge of Huntsville but outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Huntsville.  From there we traveled to the downtown of Huntsville at a no wake leisurely pace, a chance to see the sights and chat onboard. From here we get into Fairy lake speed picked up a bit as we followed along the shore to the historic canal; built in 1889 the 4,612 ft. canal was built for just under $19,000. This would allow the steamer to get to Penn Lake and the far shore to the Portage railway that got folks to Lake of Bays.  After touring the lake we headed back to the centre of town and had lunch at the Cottage Grill. This was a great time to sit on the shaded patio and catch up with friends on the cruise. After filling our belly’s and giving the town a importune boat show we carried on back up the river past Avery park to Vernon lake. This you see from hwy11 as you past Huntsville. Vernon turns out to be the biggest of the 3 and the prettiest. A fun filled day was had by all 11 boats and 28 people.  This is one of the best ways to enjoy your classic so sign up for the next one and let’s go boating!  More photos of the day can be found on our facebook page.

roostertail book coverWe are pleased to have John Kelly , author of “Roostertail : The Miss Supertest Story “.  John will speak about Jim Thompson’s quest to bring the Harmsworth Trophy back to Canada, the winning of the trophy in 1959, and its defence in 1960 and 1961; and how he came to be the author of the Miss Supertest biography. John spoke to us in Picton a couple of years back and was a great speaker. This year he will also bring a slideshow to accompany his talk. Another great event to see at the boat show. So come over to the Big red building before all the action outside starts and hear John, you will be sorry you missed him. He will also have copies of his book onsite.
