It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of one of our most beloved fellow boaters, Syd Herwig of the Manotick Chapter of the ACBS. Syd was a founder of the Manotick Classic Boat Club before the ACBS was formed. His involvement with the ACBS goes back to the very beginning where he and his late wife, Mary, were active in all aspects of the Association's evolution. For over 40 years, Syd's river trips in his beloved vessel, Calypso, took him far and wide and all those lucky enough to have met him would never easily forget him. Syd, left us on Saturday, August 29th at the age of 85. He was surrounded by his family and his beautiful partner, Rose. Never one to just sit back and take it, Syd put up a valiant and determined fight with his lung disease. Yes, he was a character and a wonderful yet 'colourful' connection to another generation. We shall miss him and never forget his stories, irreverence, outstanding political incorrectness and above all his tenacity and love of wooden boats. Farewell old friend.
