Dear Antique and Classic Boat Society Last year I took up Model Engineering and undertook night classes at our local college here in Kettering, Northamptonshire, England. I built a single acting single cylinder oscillating engine. When I go back in September I want to start working on a steam engine that would popwer a boat of around 40" to 50". It was with this in mind that I started looking for a suitable boat to build a 1:12 scale model of. I finally decided on Steam Launch Dolly.
I am trying to acquire plans for the Lake Windermere Steam Launch Dolly. Built c.1850 and currently preserved at the Steam Boat Museum Windermere England. Unfortunately the museum changed hands recently and is currently undergoing a major redevelopment, and will be closed for a number or years. I have spent the last couple of weeks trying to find a set of line plans/drawings, but to date I have had no luck. However I have purcahsed a number of booklets and a book on the subject.
I know it is a long shot, indeed a very long shot, but would you be kind enough to place my request before your members as someone may well have plans for Dolly, or may know some one who has. I would be delighted for the loan of, or copies of them if possible.
I have read with interest your great work and achievement in the restoration of the historic Steam Launch Phoebe. I also noted that Philip Gilesse drew the formal lines plan. These lines plan is now available at the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes.
While not looking for an alternative model to "Dolly" it struck me that "Phoebe" woiuld make a deliftful model in 1:12 scale. She would be well worth considering as a sencond build, once I have dolly up and sailing, which will take some time.
I notice that the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes, have the line plans for Phoebe for sale. Are these plans suitable for building a model of here, following original construction practice i.e. just scale down every thing, as opposed to using a GRP Hull.
I take this opportunity to assure you and your fellow memebrs that any help given with regards to my request will be most gratefully received and appreciated by me.
Thanking you in anticipation I remain yours
