Letter to the President

Dear Gary Getson,

I have just found the time to sit down & type this e-mail. It was one I wanted to draft back in the summer of 2008.

We have been attending the Gravenhurst Antique & Classic Boat Show for many, many years. The odd year, I have had to miss it due to other commitments. A couple of years we went to another location (I think Port Carling?), because we missed Gravenhurst. We always look forward to going to the show & are disappointed when we must miss it. This past summer (2008), we went to the show. My son (who was then 9) decided he would like to try the build a cardboard boat & sail it contest. My daughter (who was then 6) decided to just build the little boat to take home. Firstly I would like to comment on how great it is to have these activities to keep the kids happy & interested in boat related activities. Secondly, on how great it was to have choices for them. But the one thing that I found to be the greatest (my kids & I were both surprised) & the classiest thing were the trophies for not only the winners of the build a cardboard boat & sail it contest, but also for the participants. Usually, if the runners up are lucky they may get a ribbon. At this event, they walked away with a trophy! What a class act! I know my child & several others were building their cardboard boats for several hours, in the harsh sun & putting so much effort into the cardboard boats. It was such a positive experience. Even just the other day, my son commented on the race & trophy. He cannot wait until next year to try out his new theories for a better cardboard boat.

In closing, keep up the good work. We hope to attend again in summer 2009.

Bruce
