This is a photo of a 40' Ditchburn which I sailed from Penetang to Port Severn and down to Youngs Point and back during the summer of 1947. The small photo is of myself at the helm.
The second photo of the Ditchburn looking to the stern, taken near Bobcaygeon on the Trent-Severn. Sailing her on Georgian Bay and the Trent Severn in 1947 was an unforgettable experience. Seeing other boats on those waters in those days was a rare sight.
Going through the locks meant getting off and helping the lock-keepers open and close the manual gates and spending some time with them for company. The boat's name was the Val-Ron, out of Owen Sound, ON. Regards, Bill Newell (wknewell@cogeco.ca)
