Good Morning:
Perhaps you can help me with a search? Here's the story. In about 1934 - 1936 my father built a cottage on Browning Island in Lake Muskoka. Since I was very young during the time we owned the cottage my recollection of the facts may be not 100% accurate. Here's what I think I recall -- He purchased a classic Muskoka Launch at auction on Lake Roseau from the estate of Lady Eaton shortly after we built the cottage and boat house. I believe the launch was built by Minett (not Minett-Shields) I know for a fact that it was not a Ditchburn or a Gravette. I think that it was built in Bracebridge during the 1920's. I also think that it was about 29' long. It had an open cockpit and seating for other than the driver and passenger was on folding canvas covered chairs. It also had curved metal pipe roof supports to which a canvas top was attached with rings so it could be slid to any position required to protect the passengers. It also had a wooden framed windshield.
We called the boat "RONJON" named after my sister and me. In the summer of 1938 Dad sold the cottage and the boat. The boat was sold to a gentleman with a cottage on Lake of Bays somewhere near Bigwin Inn. After the war Mom Dad and I were driving in the Lake of Bays area and Dad thought he recognised the old Ronjon then called "Shamrock" (i think)
I'm just curious as to what happened to the launch (and hope that it found a good home). Perhaps one or more of your members may be able to help me in my quest.
Thanks very much John Barry
