I have a mystery that I'm looking for help in resolving. I own a 1953 40' DCFB Chris Craft, &or at least I believe it is! I have found two hull numbers on boat. The first one is 40 DC 038. I ordered the Boat Equipment Record from the Mariner's Museum. That showed the hull number to be DC 40 038, which is a 1946 boat, shipped to Kenneth E. Wilson Co., 925 Coast Highway, Newport Beach, CA, on Nov. 29, 1946. The second number is 40 CR 038. This Boat Equipment Record from the Mariner's Museum showed the number as CR 40 038, shipped to Geo. W. Mercier Inc., Clayton, NY, on July 31, 1953. Received Aug. 4, 1953. I purchased the boat in August 2002, in Belleville, Ontario, and with it, received several documents from past owners. Written and verbal history tells me the boat remained in Clayton NY, until 1959 when a gentleman, from Belleville, purchased it. It was moved into a boathouse, in Belleville, and remained there, through three more owners, until June 2003. It was moderately used throughout the years. I believe the boat to be a 1953. From historical photographs late 1940's Chris Craft cruisers had six portholes. This boat has four. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. However, while refinishing interior steps, furniture, windows and doors the majority of pieces have the 40 DC 038 number. I welcome any suggestions and insights as to how this may have happened. I have additional information and photograph, as required. Thank you, in advance, for your help.
