In memory
of Art Asbury The racing career of Canada's
fastest man on the water,
Art Asbury, ended November
13, 2003 when he failed to
answer the starter's gun
for this, his final race.
Art set the World Water Speed
Record of 184.54 mph on November
1, 1957. This still stands
as a Canadian Water Speed
Record today; forty-six years,
a record in itself! Acbs/Toronto maintains an active Archives and is always seeking donations and help from members and other interested persons. Our prime purpose is to gather information, printed materials, photographs and memorabilia about boat builders and marine suppliers, particularly those who have been active in our central Ontario membership area which includes Muskoka, Georgian Bay, Kawartha Lakes, Bay of Quinte, Thousand Islands, Lake Ontario and many smaller lakes and rivers. US built vessels are certainly of interest but our primary concern must obviously be on our membership area. Our permanent collection acts as an information resource for our quarterly publication Classic Boat, for our members and for the public, answering inquiries where possible, and suggesting other sources of help if appropriate. Many of these inquiries are posted here on our website and users are invited to supply additional information directly to the enquirer. The sheer volume of requests testifies to the need for a more active Archives department. Volunteers would be appreciated to help deal with expanded activity. To add to our knowledge and collection we ask all interested persons to donate any material in their possession so that it may be shared with others. If you do not wish to surrender original material a photocopy will allow use of the information. Our archivist is John Storey and you may contact him
