ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC BOAT SOCIETY – TORONTO CHAPTER
SUMMER 2012 BOAT SHOW
Boat built in Alexander Graham Bell’s Laboratory to be featured at 32nd Annual Antique and Classic Boat Show
Gravenhurst, ONTARIO - The 32nd Annual Antique and Classic Boat Show will be returning to the Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst on Saturday, July 7, 2012. This event yearly attracts several thousands of people to view some of the finest wooden boats ever built, at Canada’s largest in-water wooden boat show. The Gravenhurst Summer Boat Show provides an excellent venue at which to exchange information and share resources with other fellow boat owners.
The theme of this year’s show is Innovation, and on display will be the poster boat, Tolka, a 36’ Limousine Model, with a front driving position for a chauffeur. It was built at the Alexander Graham Bell Laboratories in Nova Scotia and delivered in 1928 to Lake Rosseau. The hull was found in 2003 in the woods by the lake and was reconstructed over five years to its former glory. The reconstruction was completed in 2011 for a major wooden boat collector from Minnesota. Tolka will also be shown in five other major wooden boat shows all over North America in the Spring and Summer of 2012.
The show will feature over 100 antique, classic and fibreclassic boats (both on land and water), Boats in Motion, and the Field of Dreams and Flea Market for those interested in a restoration project or purchasing one-of-a-kind items. In addition, there will be a display of antique and classic cars organized by the Pink Slips Car Club. A special welcome this year is extended to representatives from the Antique Boat Museum from Clayton, Thousand Islands, New York, who will be showing several wooden boats. New this year, admission to the show also includes entrance to the Muskoka Boat and Heritage Centre.
Over 70 vendor booths, offering a wide variety of new products and services, will be present at the show. Ship’s Stores will provide a wide range of ACBS merchandise, as well as publications, posters and many other items. The ever popular cardboard boat building and Dory construction program will continue again this year for young boaters. Also offered will be a series of information seminars at the Muskoka Boat and Heritage Centre.
The ACBS Summer Boat Show offers a broad range of entertainment and activities for the whole family and has continued to be the largest event in the Gravenhurst area for many years. It’s guaranteed to be a great day of fun and boats. Show hours are 9am- 5pm. Admission is $10- also includes admission to Muskoka Boat and Heritage Centre.
