Winter Work Shop

This year’s winter work shop was held February 19. The day started out with high winds and snow blowing so fast that 3 highways, 400, 11 and 27 were all shut down. This made for an eventful trip for those who left Toronto and further afield in the morning.  For all who arrived at Butsons shop in Minett, a great view of Lake Rosseau was had from the shop with Red Leaves resort to our east and to the south west, Cleveland’s house.

Jeremy Fowler and Kathy McCarthy along with our own Gerry Lodge organized a great winter workshop. They had such a large amount registered that the team broke the crowd down into four groups. These groups had four sessions to attend though out the day. Decking and installation of seam putty, scribing a water line, lofting and cotton fender making .  Butsons had prepared nicely bound booklets with information on all the four different session for reference at a later date. Mid day hot chilli was severed, with a salmon or egg salad sandwich, the folks a Morandin Fine Foods did a super job as always.

Butson’s shop also had 6 classic vessel s on display in there shop, two of their own built boats were in the varnish room, a Fay Bowen, Ditchburn,  Chriscraft and the 38‘ “Lady Elgin” were all in the shop for some work.chriscraft.jpgladyelgin.jpg

I hope you all had a wonderful time as the information learned this day will help us all keep our fine craft looking good and running for years to come.

Thanks to the crew who took the time to come out on Saturday and share their knowledge on boat restoration. Tim Buston himself talked about lofting, Rick Sutherland and Debbie Wood demonstrated the ways of the waterline, Dean Rivett showed us some tricks with rope and Dylan Harris gave us a step by step on deck seams and putty installation.

Thanks to our members, all those who participated made this day a great success.

Spring is just around the corner, I hope to see you all at the spring tour, a few changes this year to shake things up.
